When I woke up, the foreign trade person's world collapsed! Trump announced that starting from March 4, a new 10% tariff will be imposed on Chinese goods!

Feb 28,2025

On February 27, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods, that is, adding 10% on top of the 10% imposed on February 1, bringing the total tariff on China's goods to 20%. The move is not only a continuation of Trump's "America First" strategy, but also part of his effort to deliver on his election promises.

Trump's tariffs play out

February 1: Impose a 10 percent tariff on imports from China, along with an additional 25 percent tariff for imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10 per cent tariff on energy resources from Canada.

February 3: Trump announces a 30-day reprieve for tariff measures against Mexico and Canada in exchange for cooperation on border security and fentanyl.

February 9: Trump announces a 25 percent tariff on all steel and aluminum products entering the United States worldwide, hitting major steel and agriculture exporters such as Canada, Brazil and Mexico.

February 26: Trump announces that he will impose 25 percent tariffs on the European Union, covering cars and other goods, citing the bloc's "taking advantage of the United States" and saying the bloc was created "to screw up the United States."

February 27: Trump announces that the previously suspended 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada will take effect, while imposing an additional 10 percent on Chinese goods, bringing the total tariffs to 20 percent on Chinese products.

The Indiscriminate Assault of Trump 2.0

Trump's tariff policy is not only aimed at China, but also at traditional allies such as Canada, Mexico and the European Union. This series of tariff measures demonstrates the Trump administration's "indiscriminate attack" strategy, which aims to achieve "America First" goals through tariffs.

Trump's strategy of using tariffs as a negotiating tool in the political arena and in national games is no longer a day or two. He has gone to great lengths to take tough measures against his global trading partners for the sake of his slogans of "America First" and "protect America."

However, these tariff policies have suffered enterprises in foreign trade, whether factories, importers or cross-border logistics enterprises, who are on the sidelines, afraid to place orders or ship. This led to a continuous decline in U.S. shipping costs, and the U.S. West 40HQ container freight fell to $2,300, a low price rarely seen in recent years.

One freight forwarder lamented: "I knew there would be a lot of changes with Trump in office, but I didn't expect to be able to play like this!"
