Houthi forces tighten blockade: Israeli shipping faces new challenges
Nov 06,2024

Recently, tensions in the Middle East have escalated again. The Houthis announced that they would continue to impose a naval blockade on Israel, and that any ship belonging to, associated with or heading to Israel would be targeted. This decision has undoubtedly brought new uncertainties to the global shipping industry.
Houthi spokesman Yahya• Sareya made it clear that they would not recognize Israeli shipping companies circumventing the blockade by selling assets or transferring ships. The blockade will continue until Israel ceases its siege of the Gaza Strip and its aggressive actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
This action not only aggravates the plight of Israeli shipping, but also may have an impact on global trade. Since the Houthi attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea, problems such as rising shipping rates and prolonged cargo transportation have followed. Foreign trade people and shipping companies are closely watching the development of the situation, hoping that the conflict can be resolved at an early date.

At the same time, the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip continues to deepen. A new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict has led to more4.2Nearly a million Palestinians have died.9.7Thousands injured, about90%The Gaza population is displaced. WHO Director-General Tedros has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease the shortage of medical supplies.
The international community has expressed concern about Israel's adoption of a bill prohibiting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from operating in that country. The United Nations Security Council called on Israel to repeal the bill, stressing that UNRWA is the backbone of humanitarian operations in Gaza.
The maritime blockade of the Houthi armed forces, coupled with the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, has further complicated the situation in the Middle East. Shipping companies, international trade players and the international community are looking for solutions to mitigate the impact of the conflict in this region on global shipping and humanitarian assistance.
