Trump: If no agreement is reached within 50 days, punitive tariffs of 100% will be imposed | Maritime Export Logistics

On the 14th local time in the United States, during his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Lute in the Oval Office of the White House, Trump made a "major statement" against Russia, announcing two measures to pressure Russia into ending the Ukraine crisis:

1. Providing military assistance to Kyiv through NATO: The United States and NATO have reached an agreement to provide Ukraine with the most advanced weaponry, with NATO coordinating the support for Ukraine. NATO will cover all the costs, and it is expected that equipment such as Patriot air defense missile systems will be delivered to Ukraine within a few days. Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, and Canada will also participate in the plan to "rearm" Ukraine.

2. Threatening to impose high tariffs: Trump claimed that the call with Putin was "pleasant" but "meaningless," and that if a peace agreement is not reached between Ukraine and Russia within 50 days, the US will impose punitive tariffs of up to 100% on Russia, and secondary tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil. White House officials explained that the details of the secondary tariffs are yet to be determined.

According to Sluzki, the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma of Russia, the resumption of missile supplies to Ukraine by the United States is a step backward and will not change the situation on the front lines. Kartabov, the Chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, believes that the US military aid to Ukraine will not affect the course of the special military operation.

Trump also mentioned the new bill on sanctions against Russia that is being pushed forward by the US Senate, saying that he is not sure if it is necessary, but the top Republican officials are actively promoting it, and he hopes to avoid wasting time while acknowledging that the bill might be useful and worth keeping an eye on.
