The European Public Prosecutor's Office has announced the successful dismantling of a criminal network that smuggled Chinese goods worth up to 700 million euros through the port of Piraeus in Greece.
On June 26, European prosecutors conducted raids in multiple locations, including Bulgaria, Greece, France, and Spain.
In this investigation, code-named "Calypso," 101 searches were conducted, 10 suspects were arrested, approximately $6 million in cash was seized, and 480 containers were impounded for further examination. Additionally, 7,133 electric bicycles, 3,696 electric scooters, 11 properties in Spain, 27 vehicles, and a collection of luxury goods including bags, watches, and jewelry were confiscated.
Surveys show that the criminal network smuggled goods from China to the European Union via the Port of Piraeus, using false documents to conceal the value of the goods and evade invoicing.
Once the smuggled goods enter the European Union, they are stored in warehouses controlled by criminal organizations, and then transported to countries like France and Italy using falsified documents. After the delivery of the goods, the documents are destroyed, and they are sold on the black market.
