Major Congestion at Global Ports: 96% of Ports Disrupted, Delays for Ships Soar by 300%! | Maritime Export Logistics
Jun 20,2025

According to the latest data from Tradlinx, the global port congestion is serious, with delays soaring by 300% in June 2025, compared with the past, and 96% of major container ports face operational disruption.
Key maritime hubs such as Singapore, Cape Town and Rotterdam have been severely affected, with vessel queues and operational challenges at the worst level since the outbreak. Rotterdam, Cape Town, Ningbo - Zhoushan and other major ports wait for more than 10 days, high demurrage fees, $75-300 per container per day, greatly increasing the logistics budget.
Only 58.7 per cent of the world's ships arrived on time, a significant decrease from the average of 80-90 per cent by 2020.
Tradlinx attributed this to a variety of factors, including strikes, bad weather and ongoing supply chain bottlenecks. There was a rapid buildup of vessel lines at Singapore ports and some carriers diverted cargo; Cape Town slowed due to weather disruptions; Rotterdam faces a backlog of ships and a gridlock on the grounds.
The chain reaction affects global trade networks, increasing shipper costs and uncertainty. Carriers adjust ship dates, skip ports and charge surcharges that weaken supply chain reliability. Congestion has affected bulk and grocery shipments, raising concerns about wider disruptions to inventory management and production timelines.
Although some ports have taken measures to mitigate, such as extending terminal operating hours and deploying more equipment, Tradlinx's early warning recovery has been gradual. Tensions in the Middle East region have further exacerbated the congested supply chain, with shippers facing increased uncertainty.
