EU: Restricts the import of such Chinese goods to EU countries, Chinese response! 丨 Maritime Export Logistics

Jun 04,2025

A number of foreign media reports, local time on June 2nd, the EU member states voted to ban Chinese medical device manufacturers from participating in the EU public procurement project tender worth more than 5 million euros in the next five years.

The European Commission issued a statement saying that a detailed investigation of Chinese procurement practices found that China has "discriminated" against EU manufacturers through policy measures such as prioritizing the procurement of domestic equipment, restricting the purchase of imported equipment, and offering "exceptionally low" offers in the bidding process, putting European enterprises at a disadvantage in competition.

The report also cites a number of national support programs to ensure that domestic operators prioritize the procurement of domestic medical devices, noting that 87 percent of public procurement tenders contain explicit or implicit restrictions affecting the procurement for imported medical devices.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce responded to a reporter's question about the European Union's intention to restrict Chinese companies' participation in public procurement of medical devices.

Q: According to media coverage, EU member states have voted to ban Chinese medical device manufacturers from participating in public procurement tenders worth more than 5 million euros in the next five years. Does the Ministry of Commerce have any comment on this?

A: China is concerned about the situation. The European side's decision and discriminatory measures have harmed the interests of Chinese enterprises, used unilateral tools to undermine fair competition and build new trade barriers. China firmly opposes such protectionist measures.

At present, the global economic order is subject to unilateralism, The impact of protectionism is severe. As major responsible economies, China and Europe should abide by WTO rules, adhere to the principles of fairness, transparency and non-discrimination, meet challenges through mutual openness, resolve differences through cooperation and dialogue, and jointly safeguard the sound development of China-EU economic and trade relations.

Commerce Ministry Responds to EU Restrictions on China

We hope that the European side will correct its wrong practices, and China will closely watch the European side's follow-up action and take measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
