Collective announcement of price increase! Many shipping companies have issued price increase notices for May! Up to US $2,000! | Maritime export logistics

Recently, the shipping market has ushered in a new round of price adjustments, and a number of shipping companies have issued transportation price adaptation plans. These adjustments reflect market reaction to the U.S. policy of "reciprocal tariffs," as well as uncertainty about the future trade situation.

Hapag-lloyd announced on 17 April the introduction of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for flights from East Asia to North America effective 12 May 2025. The costs are as follows:

Each 20 foot container: $1,000

Every 40 feet and 40 feet high box: $2,000

In addition, Hapag-lloyd announced an increase in the Consolidated Rate (GRI) for goods from Asia to Latin America, effective 22 April 2025, of $500 for 20-foot containers and $1,000 for 40-foot containers and tall containers.

Maersk announced on April 15 that it will adjust the peak season surcharge (PSS) from Far East Asia (excluding China and Hong Kong) to the United States and Canada from May 15, 2025. The specific costs are:

20 foot shipping container: $1000

40 feet and 45 feet shipping containers: $2000

CMA CGM (Davesdropper) has announced a peak season surcharge (PSS) of $150 / TEU for dry goods from China and the Hong Kong, Macao Special Administrative Region of China to Central West Africa (excluding Nigeria) starting April 15, 2025.

These price adjustment plans reflect the shipping market's response to recent U.S. tariff policies. Due to the uncertainty of the tariff policy, shippers and logistics providers face huge challenges, and many shippers choose to wait and cancel their bookings, leading to increased fluctuations in cargo volume and freight prices on major routes such as short-term US lines.

In the future, as other shipping companies may issue pricing adjustment notices, the market will further observe the impact of these adjustments on the shipping industry. Shippers and logistics companies need to pay close attention to policy developments and adjust their strategies flexibly to cope with the changing market environment.
