After the bridge was broken, the port of Baltimore was finally navigable!!!

May 04,2024

Traffic in the Port of Baltimore has been severely affected since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in an accident last month, but recent developments show that the situation is gradually returning to normal.

The latest news shows that several ships trapped in the port since the bridge collapsed have successfully left the port through the newly opened deeper channel and returned to the Atlantic.

The first to leave was a grocery ship named Balsa 94. According to the following information about the ship's track provided by the ship's information network for Sindh Maritime Network, the ship has passed the Francis Scott Key Bridge at 2137 on the evening of the 25th Beijing time.

This was followed by another general cargo ship, the "Semagrachet" (Saimaagracht), and then a ship namedCarmenThe car carrier (pictured below), as well as the last departed bulk carrier owned by the Thai dry bulk shipping company Precious Shipping, the "Phatra Naree" (Phatra Naree), a dry bulk carrier with a deadweight of 35,882 DWT, was also filmed.

According to another source, in addition to outbound ships, inbound ships are also resuming navigation. U.S. Sugar Refining said a shipment of raw sugar from Florida had arrived at its sugar refinery in Baltimore earlier this week.

The newly opened 12-meter deep channel opened this week, but will be closed again next Monday to allow some clearance operations to begin.

At present, the main channel of the port is 15 meters deep and is expected to reopen next month after the removal of the Dali.

In addition, Singapore ship owner Grace Ocean and its ship management company, Synergy Group, will go on trial in Baltimore over allegations that the vessel was in an "unseaworthy" condition when it departed. This week, lawyers in Baltimore filed a lawsuit against the case.

The scene of the "Patranari" leaving the port marks an important step in the gradual resumption of normal operation of the port. Although the bridge accident once paralyzed the port of Baltimore, the reopening of the port undoubtedly brought a glimmer of hope to the city.
