National strike in Germany: crippling transport and serious threat of economic impact

Germany Enters National Strike

Deutsche Bahn (Deutsche Bahn, DB) is facing the threat of a strike by the train drivers' union (GDL),The strike, which began on Monday, January 8, could lead to severe traffic disruptions and economic impacts.
It is understood that as early as December, the union voted to allow unlimited strikes: a form of industrial action with no clear end date, which could drag on longer than the usual 24-hour warning strike.
GDL and DB are in a heated dispute over pay and conditions. GDL requires the management to reduce the working hours of shift workers from 38 hours to 35 hours per week, raise 555 euros (about 4352 yuan) per month, and provide a one-time inflation compensation of 3000 euros (about 23527 yuan).
The DB, meanwhile, offered an 11 per cent pay rise but has so far refused to negotiate on the issue of working hours.
The German Farmers Strike
At the same time, the German Farmers' Association, together with the state farmers' associations and the German LSV, called for a week-long demonstration throughout Germany to protest the cancellation of the tax exemption policy for agricultural diesel and vehicles from January 8 to January 15 (including January 15).
There will be hundreds of thousands of tractors on roads and highways.
It is reported that the farmers' protests may last until April. Many cities in Germany have issued warnings of major road traffic restrictions, and the police expect serious traffic disruptions across Germany.
The demonstrators will also block important traffic roads. This demonstration will cause traffic blockades and affect the normal transportation of trucks. In this regard, DPD has issued a delay warning notice.
A strike occurs throughout Germany, and road traffic may be severely restricted, so that the following effects will be caused. Due to the strike, traffic jams may occur and even drivers cannot drive. Therefore, it may not be possible to reach the unloading bay according to the delivery plan and express delivery will also be delayed or slow, regardless of whether truck delivery or express delivery will cause delays.
