Announcement from shipping companies regarding freight rate adjustments in mid-August! | Maritime Export Logistics

Recently, Hapag-lloyd announced a new round of tariff adjustments, involving a number of routes Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) levy. Here are the specific changes:

Asia and Oceania to South West Africa

Date of entry into force:
All cargo loaded on 16 August 2025 until further notice.

Ports involved: Port of Luanda, Port of Lubito, Port of Namibi, Port of Cabinda, Ports of Soyo (Angola), Cape Black (Congolese Bou), Matadi, Boma (Congo), Libreville, Jeantier (Gabon), Bata, Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), Cribi, Douala (Cameroon) and Whale Bay (Namibia).

PSS Levy Details:

All container types: $600 / TEU, except cold storage.

Refrigerated container type to Cameroon: $800 / TEU.

Asia and Oceania to South Africa

Date of entry into force:
All cargo loaded on 16 August 2025 until further notice.

PSS Levy Details:

All types of containers: $200 / TEU, except refrigerated containers.

Asia and Oceania to the port of Guinea Kerry

Date of entry into force:
All cargo loaded on 16 August 2025 until further notice.

PSS Levy Details:

All dry containers, tank containers and special containers: $600 / TEU.

All cold storage containers: $800 / TEU.

In recent weeks, freight prices have entered a sustained state of decline, especially the US freight prices fell significantly, down more than 60 percent and 50 percent respectively from the recent peak. The traditional high season of foreign trade, which started in August in previous years, is still awaiting observation. Affected by tariff fluctuations, coupled with the pressure of the downward cycle of the economy, the current market's wait-and-see sentiment is clear. For the subsequent rise and fall of freight prices, the practical key core is the issue of cargo support.
