The United States imposes a 50% tariff on steel household appliances from multiple countries; what are the implications? | Maritime export logistics

According to a report by Xinhuanet, the United States Department of Commerce announced that starting from June 23, it will impose tariffs on a variety of steel household appliances, including dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, and other “steel-derived products”.

The imposition of a high tariff of 50% on most countries will significantly impact the import of these steel products. This move is likely to lead to increased consumer prices and raise concerns about rising living costs. Stakeholders in the industry are closely monitoring the situation.

Back in March, before the first round of tariffs went into effect, Trump had already included nearly 300 product categories in the tariff scope. The newly added products this time cover dual-purpose refrigerators, large and small drying machines, washing machines, dishwashers, top-lift and upright freezer cabinets, cooking stoves and ovens, kitchen waste processors, and welded wire shelving.

The implementation of this tariff policy means that the import cost of relevant home appliances will significantly increase.
