Up to $3,000! Multiple shipping companies adjust freight rates! Prices may continue to rise in June! | Marine export logistics
May 15,2025

The shipping market is on the rise again! With the conclusion of a new tariff agreement between China and the United States, the high season of cross-Pacific Eastbound trade has arrived earlier.
Due to the tariff adjustment, U.S. importers rushed to complete shipments before the new tariffs were implemented, causing a surge in demand in the market. Linerlytica expects US imports to increase significantly in the next three months, with many shipping companies announcing surcharges ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
Ocean Network Shipping (ONE): announced an increase in the trans-Pacific eastbound route comprehensive rate increase surcharge (GRI) to $1000 / FEU from May 15.
CMA CGM, Yang Ming Shipping (YML), ZIM: GRI raised to $2000 / FEU.
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), Hapag-lloyd (HPL), EVA (EMC): GRI is up to $3000 / FEU.
The latest data show that the freight rate from Shanghai to the United States and Spain has risen to $2,347 / FEU, or 3.30%. Analysts predicted that freight prices could continue to climb, possibly breaking through the $3,000 mark in the coming weeks, as retailers' demand to replenish inventory increases.
Linerlytica precipitators said that due to the sharp decline in freight volumes from China in April, US retailers are facing inventory shortages, which will drive freight rates to continue to rise after June. Enterprises need to pay close attention to market dynamics and plan transportation strategies in advance to cope with the changing market environment.
In the future, freight prices on China-U.S. routes may increase steadily, reminding cargo owners to keep up to date with the latest information and arrange transportation plans reasonably.
