Attention, friends in the foreign trade and logistics industry! After Maersk, the shipping giants have made a big move. Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, and MSC have all taken action to reshape the freight price map.
On March 17, Hapag-Lloyd took the lead and announced that it would increase the comprehensive rate increase (GRI) for routes from Asia to Latin America from April 1, covering the West Coast to the East Coast, as well as Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and other regions. The 20-foot dry cargo box will increase by $500, and most 40-foot types will increase by $1,000. Puerto Rico and other places will implement it from April 19, with effective expectations.

On the same day, CMA CGM also issued a major announcement that, as of April 1, it will charge a peak season surcharge PSS for the Far East to West Africa route. For dry goods to the northern countries of West Africa, each TEU will be charged an additional $400, and for dry goods to Central and West Africa and South Africa, each TEU will be added an additional $250, and this will be implemented until further notice.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping, targeting the Far East to Northern Europe route, will set new freight rates from April 1 to April 14, priced in US dollars, with specific details being released one after another.
This series of freight rate adjustments will undoubtedly have a profound impact on global trade flows and costs, and practitioners must plan ahead to cope with the changes.
