The Russian bank will reconnect to the SWIFT system!

Feb 20,2025

According to Russia Today, the US Department of Finance and Politics is working on a list of Russian banks that have re-connected to the SWIFT settlement system. The decision marks the likely end of sanctions against Russian banks and heralds an important step towards normalizing financial relations between the two countries. Although there is no official news at this time, the positive news has spurred the ruble's exchange rate to strengthen rapidly for a third straight day.

As one of the most important financial transaction information transmission systems in the world, SWIFT is essential to the smooth development of international banking business. If Russian banks can re-access SWIFT, they will resume the full range of banking services, including cross-border payments and settlement, greatly simplifying the international settlement process and improving the efficiency of financial transactions. Experts pointed out that this will not only improve the operational efficiency of Russian domestic financial institutions, but will also significantly improve the investment environment, enhance the confidence of international investors in Russian financial markets, and attract more foreign capital inflows.
Although the price of Ural oil has fallen to $70 a barrel, the upward trend in the ruble has not been affected. Analysts believe that the strengthening of the ruble exchange rate is closely related to the expected changes in the financial sector and also reflects the changing geopolitical situation in the world.

Meanwhile, the EU's 27 member states' ambassadors to the EU reached an agreement on the 16th round of sanctions against Russia, which introduced a ban on imports of Russian primary aluminum and expanded the blacklist of Russian "shadow fleet" tankers.

In terms of U.S.-Russian relations, on February 18, Russian and U.S delegations began talks in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh. On February 19, Russian President Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia and the United States agreed to immediately begin concrete, substantive preparations for the Putin-Trump meeting.

Putin said he was very willing to meet with Trump, but that he had to be prepared for the meeting. It emerged that Trump has informed European officials of his desire to achieve a ceasefire in the conflict by Easter in the West, with a peace talks package likely to come in weeks or even days.
