Gemini "Asia-Europe route major adjustment! On the eve of booking, Maersk suddenly announced: change ports!

Nov 19,2024

In the shipping world, Maersk and Hapag-Lloth's Gemini Cooperation is undoubtedly a major strategic collaboration. As the plan progresses, the two companies recently announced an important network adjustment: from February 1, 2025, Asia-Europe routes will no longer be connected to the port of Felixstow (Felixstowe), but will instead choose the London Gateway.

This decision was made following an in-depth evaluation of the new network. Maersk pointed out in the customer announcement that London Gateway Port is considered the best port to serve UK import and export customers. This strategic change aims to simplify the complexity of the network and improve the reliability, coverage and speed of services by reducing the number of ports of call per service, so as to provide customers with better service.

It is worth noting that this change does not affect services outside the Gemini cooperation network. Maersk currently still has four non-Gemini cooperative routes to the port of Felixstow, including Nordic-Mediterranean intra-regional services under the 2M alliance agreement with Mediterranean Shipping (MSC), as well as feeder routes to Scandinavia and Europe-Middle East routes.

Maersk also emphasized that in order to better meet customer needs, more details about the plan will be shared in the coming weeks. At the same time, the company's multimodal transport and other logistics and services will continue to provide integrated solutions for existing and future customers, complementing the new maritime network.

The change will affect the Gemini cooperation within the scope of the Asia-Europe route business. The previously announced Middle East-Europe (London Gateway) and transatlantic (Southampton) Gemini partnership routes will remain unchanged. The self-operating services of the two ships outside the scope of the Shuangxingzi cooperation will not be affected. Spurs and non-major port coverage will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

This change signals the shipping industry's flexibility and adaptability in responding to changes in global trade and customer needs. With the implementation of the "Gemini Cooperation Program", Maersk and Hapg-Lloth will be able to provide more efficient and reliable services, while also setting a new benchmark for the future development of the shipping industry.
