The busiest port in the Middle East: Jebel Ali Port
Jan 22,2024

Port of Jebel Ali, also known as Mina Jebel Ali, is a deep-water port in Jebel Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Jebel Ali is the ninth busiest port in the world, the largest man-made port, and the largest and busiest port in the Middle East.

Jebel Ali
Jebel Ali Port was built in the late 1970 s to complement the facilities at Rashish Port. Jebel Ali Port is located in the Persian Gulf, 35km southwest of Dubai.
The port is part of the Maritime Silk Road, which runs from the coast of China south through the southern tip of India to Mombasa, from there via the Red Sea via the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea, to the Upper Adriatic region to Trieste in northern Italy, and connects by rail to Central and Eastern Europe and the North Sea.
Jebel Ali Port is connected to Dubai's motorway system and the Dubai International Airport Cargo Village. The facilities in the Cargo Village are capable of handling cargo, making a 4-hour transit from ship to aircraft possible. DPA's commercial trucking service transports containers and general cargo between Jebel Ali Port, Rashid Port and the rest of the UAE on a daily basis.
Jebel Ali Port is one of the flagship facilities of the Dubai Global Ports Group, and Jebel Ali Port is managed by the state-owned Dubai Ports World.
The entire project includes 2.4 kilometers of new berths, a container yard behind the berths, and the supporting infrastructure and buildings required for a fully functional wharf. The new port will be built on reclaimed land, extending seagoing from the existing port, to the west of the Palm Jumeirah complex.
Jebel Ali Port includes more than one million square meters of container yard and also contains storage space for medium-and long-term general cargo, including 7 Dutch barns with a total of nearly 190000 square meters and 12 sheds covering 90.5 square meters of space. In addition, Jebel Ali Port also has 960000 square meters of open storage space.
The port of Jebel Ali is connected to Dubai's highway system and the Dubai International Airport Cargo Village, and has cargo handling facilities that enable transportation by ship or aircraft within 4 hours.
Jebel Ali Port is one of the flagship facilities of Dubai World (DP World) and has been listed as the first container port (9th in the world). In 2005, it handled 7.62 million TEUs, an increase of 19% over 2004. In 2013, the port throughput was 1360 TEUs.

The current plan is expected to increase the total capacity of Jebel Ali Port by more than 7 times, making it the world's largest container port, surpassing the ports of Shanghai and Singapore.
